Bad Gastein

Overview of Bad Gastein

SKI & THERMAL REGION GASTEINER VALLEY - The internationally acclaimed ski and thermal Wellness villages of Gastein Valley ( incorporating Bad Hofgastein ) is one of Austria’s most traditional resorts. A historic and rather grand spa resort located in one of Austria's largest ski areas. It has more sophisticated après ski than many resorts and the world renowned skiing includes many delightful wooded trails.

Old world charm, hot natural spring baths, extensive skiing up to 2.655 m high, a busy nightlife and a casino are only a few highlights that make Bad Gastein a great destination. Your ski pass connects 4 regions and makes for good advanced skiing.

Situated further south from Salzburg than Zell am See and also very well connected to the train system to ensure easy reach of the surrounding cities.

Accommodation ranges from self catering to 5 star. Chalet style accommodation is also available on request. Bad Gastein has a great nightlife and an imperialistic flair. The centrally located public "Felsenbad" with its natural hot spa water and natural hot caves (like saunas) are a big attraction and great for relaxation after a hard ski day.

Although the Bad Gastein area offers the most for intermediates, 24% of its slopes are well suited for beginners. New skiers will find the Angertal ski center offers gentle slopes and nursery runs. Intermediates rule the area with 66% of the slopes designated for them. Many of the runs weave through the surrounding forest. The longest of these runs is eight kilometers (five miles) long. While only 10% of runs are challenging for advanced skiers, the off-trail skiing in Bad Gastein is great for more daring skiers. Lots of fresh powder and varied terrain provide an invigorating day on the slopes, although it ’s often best to hire a local guide.

Snowboarders will find a snowpark with a half-pipe in Dorfgastein. There’s also a boardercross area here as well as a terrain park with rails and tabletops. The Argental and the Sportgastein areas also boast half-pipes. Many snowboarding competitions are held in this area. Off-trail boarding in the Sportgastein provides a thrill for the more adventurous. Bad Gastein hosts 35 kilometers (22 miles) of well maintained cross-country tracks. An additional sixty kilometers (37 miles) of tracks wind throughout the three-town area.

This is a great family valley to visit with choices far and wide.
