Overview of null

One of Austria's top resorts and the largest community in the Tyrol, but also one of the most expensive. It has managed to retain the ambiance and architectural integrity of a traditional Tyrolean village. The skiing takes place on two separate mountains (Penken and Ahorn), the larger of which is reached by the impressive Penken cable car. The local ski area is extensive, but the Super Zillertal pass increases the maximum to 478 KM and 149 lifts.

There are two main mountains at Mayrhofen, the Penken and the Ahorn. The Penken is best suited to intermediates while the Ahorn is great for beginners. There isn’t a lot here for advanced skiers, though. Twenty-nine percent of all the trails are designated for beginners, 59 percent for intermediates, and 12 percent for advanced skiers. Beginners should try out the Ebenwald Trail, a 5.5-kilometer (three-mile) trail starting at the top of the Ahorn gondola. Intermediates enjoy lots of sunny, open-bowl skiing and may also want to ski the steep trails of the Tuxer Glacier. Advanced skiers have limited possibilities but can enjoy some off-trail skiing as well as runs on the glacier.

The resort is very family-friendly with good ski schools, day care, and a special play area for children. The ski school Mayrhofen Total provides Children’s Land featuring a “magic carpet” and a special area for little beginners. Several ski schools are available for adults as well in beginner, intermediate and advanced levels in skiing and snowboarding.
